What is WPM?

WPM stands for Words Per Minute. It's the standard measure of typing speed. In typing tests, a "word" is standardized as 5 characters (including spaces and punctuation). This standardization ensures fair comparison regardless of the actual words typed.

The WPM Formula:

WPM = (correct characters / 5) / minutes

For example, if you type 300 correct characters in 2 minutes, your WPM is (300 / 5) / 2 = 30 WPM.

How to Improve Your Typing Speed

1. Learn Touch Typing

Place your fingers on the home row (ASDF JKL;) and learn to type without looking at the keyboard. This is the foundation of fast typing.

2. Focus on Accuracy First

Speed without accuracy is counterproductive. Aim for 95%+ accuracy, and speed will follow naturally as you build muscle memory.

3. Practice Regularly
